honeyview use memory as cache and there is no lag after clicking a pic in bandizip or scan a lot of pics.

Hello, this is Bandisoft.

BandiView uses MMF (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Memory-mapped_file) to fix the problem caused by Honeyview using only your RAM. Though it sometimes inevitably uses a bit, BandiView rarely uses a hard disk drive if there is enough free space in the RAM.

(The last reply failed to send and I forgot to save a draft.😢)

My laptop:win11x64, 12700h, 32GB ddr5 memory at 5200Mhz,512GB ssd+1TB hdd

Mostly, it has more than 50% unused memory. So, I think bandiview has enough memory not to use hard disk drive cache.

Every time I open a compressed img file, bandiview creates cache on hard disk drive which it's more than reasonable. For example,a 38MB 100% compressed-rate compressed file will lead to  more than 200MB cache files. And my cache memory size option is 256MB. I'm just a regular user and I don't know what happened.

Hard disk drive cache leads to lag and it worsens user experience, not improve.(If you can't feel the lag, use a PC with hdd only and you will feel it clearly)

My spoken English is not good. Hope there is no mistake and you can undertand what I mean.

I missed a point. Lag happens when I use bandiview to open a compressed img file(not solid, like .zip, .rar, .cbz, and .cbr) and scan pics quickly, not just open a regular img file like .jpg, .png .webp, etc.

To show images inside a solid-compressed (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solid_compression) archive, BandiView should extract all images from the archive to the app's temporary folder first and most RAR files are solid-compressed archives. We believe that this is why BandiView is lagging.

If you have any SSD installed on your computer, open BandiView and go to the Configuration (F5) > Misc. tab to specify a folder on SSD as the temporary folder. It might mitigate the lagging. Sorry for your inconvenience.

No, not solid.
It just happens every time I open a compressed img file.

Cache files' name: bv.*tmp(Regular Expression).

Plus,  I've done some more tests. It also happens every time I open a regular img file. May I ask why?  This file's size is just, as you can see, 14.1KB. And this cache files' size is, boom, more than 10MB.

Hello. This is Bandisoft.

* "No, not solid."
- Could you send me the file? I'll see if it's solid or not.

* BandiView could create multiple temporary files to cache an image. It has it's own internal rule.

Best Regards,
Park, KH

I can't upload non-img file to this forum. But it's a zip. And as far as I know,  there is no solid zip.

I can't see there is any need to create hard drive disk cache to open a img file like above, which is just 14.1KB in size.

I create a new compressed img file. Winrar is at the lower right corner of the pic below. The circled place in the picture below shows "ZIP压缩文件", means zip-compressed file.
I use zip and rar to pack up img files. But I rarely use solid 7z and solid rar to do so.

Plus, I'm just an ordinary user. I don't know that much about programming.

Hello,

- You are correct that ZIP files are not solid-compressed.

- BandiView uses SSD or HDD to cache data, and we are afraid that we have no current plan to provide a feature forcing the app to use RAM only. Sorry for your inconvenience.

Feel free to contact us again if you have any other questions or issues.

Sure. I just feel it's a pity this change from honeyview to bandiview.
Thanks for your reply.
