Hi everyone,

Please see information below and attached on some really interesting opportunities with the State Department - they also sound like they pay well and have excellent benefits. Most of these positions will not be local - likely in DC or outside of the US.  I was connected to Micaela Schweitzer-Bluhm who is an internal recruiter with the State Department (thanks to Sharon Turner!) and she would like to work with more colleges in our area to hire community college grads and provide internships.

Micaela is cc:ed on this email and also provides her full contact information below along with details about the positions. Please reach out to her if you would like to know more about these opportunities and develop a connection to her.

Take care,
Carrie

Dear Carrie - It was a pleasure talking with you today.  Thank you for your time.  I appreciate you sharing information about opportunities with the U.S. Department of State with your network of community college career centers.

At the U.S. Department of State, our employees contribute different perspectives, life experiences, and innovative thinking to advance U.S. interests worldwide. Foreign Service Officers and Specialists represent the U.S. abroad at over 270 diplomatic missions. Our Civil Service employees provide continuity and expertise in all aspects of our work at our HQ in Washington, D.C.

We recruit from IT, engineering, healthcare, federal law enforcement, international affairs, legal, business, management, and public relations careers.  Many of our positions in the Foreign Service are open to applicants with high school diplomas or associates degrees, including:

Our Consular Fellow Program positions also are open to applicants with a high school or associates degree diploma.  For this five-year appointment as a Consular Officer, applicants must have language skills in Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, or Mandarin.

We also offer a wealth of student programs, including paid and unpaid internships, study abroad, and paid fellowships.

U.S. citizenship is required for all our career and student opportunities.

I have attached some information packets on our opportunities and would be happy to brief career advisors or talk with students at any time.  I host regular webinars about our careers. My next one is May 20 at 5pm Pacific.  Interested individuals can register to attend at:

Thank you again for your time.  I look forward to continuing to cooperate on sharing information with Bay Area Community College students.

Best Regards,

Micaela
