Hello Fellow Dual Enrollment Colleagues,

I'm wondering if any of you have a formal process for students to request/receive their midterm grades and/or other progress reports, similar to that of which high schools provide to them during regular semesters. Our practice at SRJC has been that dual enrollment students check their Canvas account or request this information directly from their college instructor, but not all of our instructors use Canvas nor respond to the students' requests. Does anyone have a process that has been institutionalized? If so, did it need to be negotiated with faculty?

At times we have high school students who request an official progress report of their college courses, but official transcripts 1) do not include midterm grade reports, 2) are not required for faculty to submit, and 3) wouldn’t be posted in time to meet the students’ needs. So I’m wondering if anyone has another process?

Thank you,
Vanessa Luna Shannon

Hi Vanessa -- In our College Now program, we have a formal progress report system and I would say we get about 75% of the college instructors respond.  Someone from the college sends an email to the instructors advising them that they have a College Now student in their class and explains that progress reports will be requested so that they have a heads up  prior to the student submitting them.  We also work with our high school students on how to get the progress reports signed by utilizing the instructors office hours -- which serves two purposes of getting the progress report completed and getting our student to visit the instructor during office hours.  We did have one instructor complain last year that it was not part of her job responsibilities and it forced us to look at teachers who have several of the high school teachers in one class.  Now we create a spread sheet with the students so they don't have to do individual reports.
