Hi everyone,

I'm forwarding information on the Learning Aligned Employment Program (LAEP) that is kicking off. Those of you at the BACCC meeting last Wednesday heard a little bit about this from the Chancellor's Office.

LAEP will pay the wages for students to work (100% if on campus, 80% if a nonprofit, 50% if a for profit) and undocumented students are eligible. Five hundred million is allocated for this initiative.

The intent is to support career exploration, and is being done in partnership with Financial Aid offices (and I assume will require campus-wide coordination, and particular assistance needed through Career Services).

There is an info webinar on Monday April 18 at 2 pm and applications are due June 30.

I realize there are a lot of funding opportunities right now, and this also seems like a good one. Years ago, when Gavin Newsom was Mayor of San Francisco, I helped coordinate a similar program to help people get back to work during the "great recession" that was very successful. If anyone would like to connect on how they might set up this kind of program, I'm happy to help, and I'm sure there is a lot of other expertise in our network.

Take care,
Carrie

Dear Colleagues,

Please pay special attention to the attached Special Alert from the California Student Aid Commission (CSAC). The alert provides an update on the Learning-Aligned Employment Program (LAEP). This new program presents an unique opportunity to offer eligible students at public colleges and universities the opportunity to help meet the total cost of attendance, while gaining education-aligned, career-related employment. To participate, public postsecondary institutions should submit a Learning-Aligned Employment Program Agreement (LAEPA) to CSAC no later than June 30, 2022.

Please see the attached flyer for program highlights and for more information about the Learning-Aligned Employment Program, please review the LAEP Overview for Institutions and other materials on the CSAC website. You may also view GSA 2022-23 at the following link: CSAC Special Alerts.

Career Technical Education, Financial Aid Office, and other student service or equity teams are encouraged to collaborate together to discuss this program and to develop strategies to ensure program success at their campuses. Team should also register for the LAEP Webinar hosted by CSAC scheduled for Monday, April 18 at 2pm.

If you have any questions regarding the Learning-Aligned Employment Program (before the scheduled webinar) you may contact the California Student Aid Commission by email at la...@csac.ca.gov.
