[BayDualEnrollmentCoP] College Going Data

The BACCC pulled together the college going rates for the region. It shows the number of students not showing up in post-secondary. I wanted to share it with you all because research shows that students who engage in dual enrollment are more likely to continue their education. This data is an argument for the number of students we could potentially impact with the work we are doing. Wanted to share it with you all!

Thanks Mallory,

Can you provide the source of these data? Do they only reflect in state colleges or do they reflect students enrolling out of state also? And can we add in the students who join the military?

Hi Eileen, 

The source is DataQuest. It is linked below the table. It does include out of state. They provide the graduation rate for each region, as well as the following data: 

• University of California
• California State University
• California Community College
• Private 2- and 4-Year College
• 4-Year College (Public/ Private)
• 2-Year College(Public/ Private)

Military is not one of the categories they track, but it is of interest, I agree. I did a bit of research. One number I found was that  2% of high school students enter the military. It also looks like a high school diploma or GED is required by the military.

Thanks so much Mallory. I wonder if it includes trade and technical schools. Are they all considered two years?

In any case, probably also a small percentage attend one of those so the data is a good benchmark of the number of students who need support and outreach to support their career development.

DataQuest is using data from National Student Clearinghouse (NSC). I tried to figure out what the 2 years include. It's not clear to me. I suspect you are right about the numbers being low.
