For my study would like to use OpenFTA but still have trouble running on Windows 8.1, despite the useful tip on win95 compatibility. It installs and works fine up to saving and closing. Despite saving both tree and database (and linking database), the content is gone after closing the program.

Another glitch is that the screens after running a validation or testrun won’t show all, won’t scroll and don’t react to the close button at the bottom.

Does anyone else know these problems and perhaps fixes?

Thanks!
Gabriel

Make sure you set JAVA_HOME variable first.

Hi Jason,

Thanks for the fast reply and offer. I will definitely try but not really a Java expert. Could you be a tad more specific where and how to do the below? Really much appreciated.

Hi Gabriel,

Install the JRE:

Use 32 bit if on 32 bit system.

Setup your JAVA_HOME variable:

* Open Advance System Settings > Environment Variables> System Variables.
* Under system variables, select 'New'.
* Add JAVA_HOME and the path to your install, most likely C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.8.0_31
* Hit ok to close dialog and ok again to close and save

Double click on OpenFTA.bat to run.

Actually, the binaries included in that package are for 64bit so I don't think you can use the 32 bt JRE. Just make sure you're running 64bit and use the link to the 64bit jRE i provided.

Hi Jason,

You're the best! Works like a charm. Turns out what I saved before was actually still there as well.

Can I share with my classmates as well?

Brgds

Hi Carlos,

I'll need more information about your environment. What OS are you installing this on? Is it 64 or 32bit? Where did you download the installation from?
