Dear The Atsign Foundation,
This is Evelyn Wu, an assistant professor from the National University of Defense Technology, China. We are conducting research on how open-source projects are responding to the rise of AI-generated code contributions. Our goal is to understand the policies, practices, and concerns of maintainers regarding AI usage in their projects.
The rise of AI-powered coding tools has made it easier than ever for developers to write code and submit pull requests. However, this convenience comes at a cost for project maintainers, who now face growing challenges in reviewing AI-generated contributions—ranging from increased review workload and low-quality submissions to concerns about attribution, licensing, and accountability. AI contribution policies have emerged as a key mechanism for projects to manage these challenges.
Based on your role as a maintainer of an open-source project on GitHub, I would like to invite you to participate in a short survey (about 10 minutes):
https://forms.gle/c8qCdojEJZmDFoKBA
Your insights will help the open-source community better understand the impact of AI on software development and inform best practices for AI governance.
All responses will be fully anonymized before publication, and your personal information will be kept strictly confidential.
With kind regards,
Evelyn Wu
