Chile on nyt kokonaan vapaa leprasta


WHO on julistanut Chilen ensimmäisenä Amerikkojen maana sekä vasta toisena maana koko maailmassa vapaaksi leprasta. Edellinen havaittu tapaus on vuodelta 1993, mutta senkin jälkeen Chile on valonnan, raportoinnin ja jatkuvan valmiuden kautta monitoroinut tilannetta.

  1. Haku kurssiassistenteiksi Infon maisterin CS-E5490 Technology and Power D -kurssille


We are looking for several teaching assistants to support our new course "Technology and Power D” (CS-E5490), running in Period I, which will replace "Technology and Society" and "Digital Ethics" in the 2026–2028 curriculum.

  • Course description: In this course, we will explore various critical perspectives on technology, enriching our technical understanding of algorithmic systems using concepts and methods from the social sciences and the humanities. Through a series of interactive teaching sessions, we will study how technology reflects, engrains, and extends both state and privatized forms of power, and we will investigate the potential of technology to address, rather than exacerbate, societal problems.

  • Duties of a teaching assistants: Prepare, facilitate, and evaluate interactive group discussions and workshop sessions. Prepare and test course and examination materials. Potentially exist in examinations. The course will have contact sessions on Mondays (10–12), Wednesdays (14–16), and Fridays (9–12.30), and TAs will need to be physically present at least on all Wednesdays and on selected Fridays (depending on the groups they are assigned to mentor).

  • Approximate hours per week:10

  • Length of the contract:7 weeks starting August 24 (Orientation Week + Period I teaching period + Period I exam period)

  • Prerequisites:

    • required: passed Technology and Society (TU-E5280) or an equivalent course with grade 4 or 5

    • desirable: passed Digital Ethics (CS-E5480) or a philosophy course (e.g., TU-E6010) with grade 4 or 5.

  • Further information: Since this is a new course, no MyCourses or SISU pages are available yet. If you have further questions, please contact the responsible teacher (corinna....@aalto.fi).

Good news of the week:

Chile is completely free of leprosy


The WHO has declared Chile the first country in the Americas and only the second country in the world to be free of leprosy. The last case was detected in 1993, but since then Chile has monitored the situation through awareness, reporting, and constant preparedness.
