Upcoming Changes

Review contributed work to update the Drupal 8 User guide to support video embeds

The community led Drupal 8 User guide team would like to add support for embedded video content in the Drupal 8 user guide. We are working to review and deploy this work.

Many thanks to users: jhodgdon, eojthebrave, and to Drupalize.me for contributing the content.

CkEditor should warn that paths to images must be local

Drupal.org only supports embedding local images in content, and so this means that the CKEditor image functions should warn users to use local image paths.

On user profiles, indicate if the user's 'work' organization has an organization node on Drupal.org

Many of the organizations that users on Drupal.org work for have organization profiles. We want to link to those org profiles to create a better connection between users and their orgs.

Provide a link to the drag and drop view for reordering group content for section/documentation guide maintainers

To make it easier for documentation guide maintainers and other section maintainers to organize content in their sections, we're linking them to a drag and drop interface for managing their content.

Prevent future-dated posts from sticking at the top of aggregated feeds

To prevent posts dated in the future from sticking at the top of feeds such as Drupal planet we'll be implementing a fix.

Show all historical credits on organization profiles

For organizations, we currently only display their contributions from the past 90 days. This is a deliberate choice to encourage ongoing contribution, and matches the ranking factors used in the marketplace. However, there is value in being able to see an organization's complete contribution history, so we'll provide the option to see an organization's credits going back to the beginning of recorded credit (April 2015).

Change the issue credit attribution to default to crediting commenters (maintainers must deselect commenters to remove credit attribution)

A number of maintainers and contributors from the core and contrib spaces have suggested that we change the Issue Credit Attribution process, so that commenters are credited by default, instead of having to be manually credited by the maintainer.

We want to continue to observe feedback on this change in the issue thread, but based on the current consensus and positivity around this idea, we are intending to make this change.

Ongoing Changes

Preparing for GDPR

GDPR takes effect on May 25th, and we are preparing for compliance on Drupal.org and the sub-sites. Follow the drupal.org blog for more information about our GDPR compliance process.

Status: In progress

Improve accessibility on the home page

While the new animations on the Drupal.org homepage provide a fresh and dynamic look and feel, animations can cause motion sickness for some users. We have implemented support for 'prefers-reduced-motion' to disable animations in the browsers which support it. Keyboard/accessibility device navigation still needs to be improved.

Importing existing donation and membership data to new membership system

If you've ever needed to look up a history of your donations to the DA for tax purposes, you'll be happy for this one. Now you will see the full history of donations, not including memberships, on your Drupal.org profile.

Implementing Open Demographics Initiative on Drupal.org

To improve the inclusiveness of our community, we want to provide better tools for understanding our community, and for allowing members of our community (at their choice) to positively affirm their identity and expression.

There are a number of important axes of identity and expression, however. We are evaluating making a module to include the Open Demographics Initiative, by @drnikki, with input from @sagesharp, @rachel_norfolk, @justafish, among others.

Issue: https://www.drupal.org/project/drupalorg/issues/2938949

Status: We connected with some of the people involved in ODI at DrupalCon Nashville. The general consensus was that a good next step is for ODI to evolve into an API (providing the questions and their responses canonically as JSON, for example).

Previous Sprint Changes

Show all historical credits on user profiles

Right now, we only show the most recent year's worth of contributions on user profiles. This was because we did not have historical data when first creating the credit system.

However, we want to make it possible to see the full history of a user's contributions, so we will begin displaying all user credits from the time that the credit system was implemented (April 2015).

Implementing content analysis anti-spam protection

After the end-of-life of Mollom, we are seeing a surge of spam attacks on Drupal.org. We have been using Akismet as a replacement in monitoring-only mode, and will enable it shortly to provide content analysis protection against spam attacks moving forward.

Converting drupal.org/about/strategic-initiatives to the Section content type

There are quite a few active initiatives underway in Drupal core, and we'd like to level up the tools used to manage strategic initiatives on Drupal.org. We'll be upgrading the about/strategic-initiatives landing page into a full section, and giving initiative leads control over the initiative landing pages using some of the same tools recently used in the Drupal.org front page and persona page redesign.

Converting drupal.org/documentation to the Section content type

Designing a better top-level landing page for Drupal.org/documentation is a key priority this year. To start, we'll be converting the existing landing page with its current content to the full section content type, and granting Documentation Working Group members more control over the function and layout of this landing page. There are additional features and requirements being discussed in the issue that may be completed as follow ups.
