Tomorrow, (10/13) at 7:30 pm in 246 Dwinelle, Asha for Education, Berkeley has the privilege of having one of our project partners, Ms. Padmini Kumar, present her amazing work at our meeting.Ms. Padmini Kumar has played an active role in the Joint Women's Program, a movement in India working towards freeing women and children from violence and creating a new society characterized by an equal partnership between women and men. Ms. Kumar will be presenting on education in India, skill development, and the empowerment of women. In addition, she will be discussing the educational center, Mera Sahara, that our chapter funds in Noida, Uttar Pradesh. Mera Sahara caters to about 160 children and provides basic education, food, and shelter during the day when their parents, mostly daily wage laborers, are away at work. There are also skill training programs that concentrate on vocational training in tailoring and designing, Durry making, and computers for women to become economically self-sufficient.
