Dear Asha Patron,
Today marks the start of our annual Asha-wide campaign, Work-An-Hour (WAH). WAH is a global campaign seeking to bring together individuals in a demonstration of great human spirit, to help promote education for the underprivileged children of India. During the WAH campaign, we request you to symbolically “work an hour” towards education by donating an hour’s worth of your salary to support Asha’s mission.
This year, Asha Berkeley is raising funds for Guria, one of our largest and longest-running projects. Guria’s mission is to end trafficking and forced prostitution of children, and operates primarily in the red-light district of Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. Guria has seen success in rescuing and resettling victims of trafficking, and diminished the exploitation of children in the Varanasi red light district. However, Guria’s work is badly needed in other locations. Currently, Asha hopes to help Guria replicate their success in Mau, Uttar Pradesh.
Several years ago, Asha Berkeley funded the construction of a Non-Formal Education (NFE) center located in the heart of the Varanasi red light district. This center has already provided hundreds of children from the district with primary education as well as vocational training. With our WAH campaign this year, we are looking to fund the construction of classrooms, offices, and a kitchen for a new education center at Mau.
To donate, click here and select “Guria” as the project.
We are grateful for your generous support in the past. Your support helps hundreds of children attain an education. Please consider donating to our WAH campaign this year and support Guria’s efforts to transform the lives of children in the red light districts.
Thank you,
Asha for Education, Berkeley
