Guria Project Update

[Berkeley Chapter, Asha for Education]

Dear Asha Patron,

Thank you for your support of Guria! We are halfway through the campaign and so far, we have raised $975! We still need your help to reach our goal as we have $14,025 left to go.

By supporting Guria, you are supporting an organization that does more than just educate children. The Non-Formal Education (NFE) center run by Guria provides a variety of services besides primary education.

The NFE center is unique in the alternative practices used for education. While Guria does provide tutoring in traditional subjects, there is also a strong emphasis on therapeutic methods, such as art therapy and meditation. The children of the red light district are often involved in the sex trade. They are either partake directly or serve their mother’s customers with chai and food. Their lives are oftentimes filled with traumatic experiences that serve as a barrier to their education. Using these alternative methods, Guria strives to help them emotionally and provide them with the closure they need to move forward.
