Dear colleagues,
After too long a hiatus, there will be a 4th MT 3D Inversion
workshop! This follows the three highly successful prior ones:
MT3DINV1: 1st MT 3D Inversion workshop, Dublin, Ireland, 12-14
March, 2008 (https://www.dias.ie/mt3dinv/Home.html)
MT3DINV2: 2nd MT 3D Inversion workshop, Dublin, Ireland, 30 March
1 April, 2011 (https://www.dias.ie/mt3dinv2/Home.html)
MT3DINV3: 3rd MT 3D Inversion workshop, Bari, Italy, 16-18 May,
2016 (https://www.dias.ie/mt3dinv3/Home.html)
The workshop is intended for both code developers and code users.
For a description
of the first two workshops, please read the paper by Marion
Miensopust et al., that you can download from here:
https://www.manotick-geosolutions.com/users/ajones/publications/148.pdf
Colin Farquharson has kindly offered to host the workshop at the
Memorial University of Newfoundland (MUN), St. John's, on the days
prior to the EM Induction Workshop.
So we will have the MT3DINV4 workshop on the 2 1/2 days from
Friday 31st July to midday on Sunday 2nd August, which is arrival
day for the EMIW.
The format will be close to the prior three workshops, but with a
couple of additions.
As with the prior workshops, we will first examine the forward
responses from a given body. Then we will examine the inverted
models that everyone derives from responses, both ground and
airborne, from a secret model. And finally we will examine the
inverted models from a real dataset.
Given the huge interest in critical minerals and mining, the focus
for the MT3DINV4 will be natural source EM for mineral
exploration.
As with the prior workshops, there will not be a registration fee
for the MT3DINV4.
BUT, to attend you MUST do at least one of the three tasks, either
model the given body, invert the ground and/or airborne responses
from the secret model, or invert the ground MT and Tipper
responses from real data.
We hope to raise funds from sponsors to assist with accommodation
and meals. (Sponsors are not required to perform any of the
tasks...)
The intent with these MT3DINV workshops is to be truly small,
intimate, informal forward-looking workshops of max. 40-50 people
in which discussion and debate of the issues is more important
than the actual results. Presentations will be short to allow
ample time for debate.
If you are interested in attending the MT3DINV4 workshop and wish
to be informed more about it as we develop the plans and datasets,
please register your email on the MT3DINV4 mailing list - go to
this link and follow the instructions:
https://box2518.bluehost.com:2096/cpsess6224384969/3rdparty/mailman/listinfo/mt3dinv4_mtnet.info
There will be a web page for the workshop built over the next
month or so.
Very best wishes all, and hopefully see you in St. John's!
Alan
For the MT3DINV4 committee
Dates: Friday 31st July - Sunday 02 August (midday)
These are the 2 1/2 days before the start of the EMIW.
Datasets:
MT3DINV4F - Forward responses
A body that participants must calculate the forward responses for,
and return those to us in EDI format for ease of comparison.
MT3DINV4S - Secret model responses
A secret model that we give the responses to people for. This time
as well as ground MT and Tipper responses, airborne responses that
mimic ZTEM and MobileMT data will be provided.
MT3DINV4D - Real dataset
The real dataset is still to be decided, but it will be from a real
mineral exploration project.
