We currently host course videos on Google Drive, and embed them in the course activities while also providing a link to download for offline access particularly since we have students from all over the globe. We are now exploring options for DRM controls and am curious to know what you are doing.

How does your institution post the video lectures in online courses? Does your institution make the videos downloadable for offline access?

Does your institution use any Digital Rights Management (DRM) technology to protect the video content and what has been your experience?

We use Kaltura software for lecture capture and integration with our LMS (Moodle).

Our faculty love the ease of use both for them and for students.

We use Panopto lecture capture software and it is integrated directly into our LMS (Canvas).  Faculty can record or upload other videos, add quiz questions to a video that integrates into Canvas Grades, and students can use it as well as an assignment option.  Downloading the videos by the student is an option that can be set by the recorder/uploader, there is also an option to download just the audio (podcast).

Thank you,
Tori

Sali,

Campbell migrated from Tegrity to Panopto a year ago and have been very pleased. Our integration is with Blackboard (SaaS) and the description from Tori also goes for us.

The overall LMS integration, graded assignment function, and the availability of a number of tools to engage in active learning strategies sold us when we had to find a Tegrity replacement.

Our faculty are true fans of the system. Our med school especially appreciates the ability to simultaneously capture as many as nine video sources.

Download permissions may be controlled globally or set to be determined by the video creator (owner), usually the instructor. The unlimited storage provided in our SLA doesn't hurt, either. Under the current exigent circumstances, you can imagine the cloud storage that's being used.
