Hello everyone,
We’re scrutinizing all expenses and services in order to trim the budget so one of the items I’m looking at is our help desk / inventory software. We’ve been using Track-IT! for many years now. Although it’s clunky, the price is right and is always the cheapest product whenever we compare it to other offerings. When I did a search this morning I had come across Spiceworks. We had looked at that some time ago but didn’t jump on board because it was missing things we were using in TI! So were dismissive of it. But looking at it this morning I see it has matured quite a bit and so I’m thinking it could be a possible contender now. And with the business model they use, it’s free so that’s very attractive. But, they serve up ads to support their mission.
What I’m wondering is… Does anyone use Spiceworks? If so, do you find the ads in any way intrusive when working in it or are they easily dismissed? Are the ads served up to the users who submit tickets? I guess I don’t mind ads if they don’t get in the way of what we’re trying to accomplish but I didn’t want them to be disruptive to our work flows.
Best regards,
Jeff

Jeff do you have a sense of what your budget will be for a product. I don’t have any experience with Spiceworks but know of a couple others.

Hi Jeff,
We here at Cairn also have a history with Track-It. We used it for a number of years, but several years ago we switched to Kayako. This doesn’t specifically address your question about Spiceworks, but at least may give you something to look at or consider. https://www.kayako.com/
We mostly like it, but it has certain attributes that where we see room for improvement. But for the money, nothing that has given us serious motivation to look for alternatives. I believe we pay about $2,800 annually for 15 licenses. A license is used by a staff account/login.
Hope this helps!
