Dear all,

I'm thrilled to share with you that this week SPARC has launched the pilot of the SPARC Open Education Leadership Program, a new professional development initiative aimed at empowering open education leaders in academic libraries. We officially kicked things off on Monday with a cohort of fourteen fellows from SPARC member libraries, who will act as both students and creators helping to improve and hone the curriculum along the way.

The program runs over two semesters, starting in the fall with an 8-week intensive online course to build subject matter expertise, and then in the spring each fellow will complete a capstone project with support from a mentor. The entire pilot cohort will also attend the Open Education Conference next week. In the spirit of openness, we've repurposed many openly licensed resources from the OER community in the curriculum, and we'll also be releasing everything we develop under a CC BY license once it's complete.

This type of program is a first for SPARC, and we could not be more excited. We'll be sure to keep you posted as the pilot progresses, and we'll also be back later this fall with a call for mentors — we hope to draw on the amazing diversity and depth of experience in this community to help support the development of more leaders.

Happy to answer questions, and we look forward to seeing many of you next week!

Best,
Nicole

What a day for OER Learning and Building! Truly we are creating a gigantic wave across the country and probably further. So much knowledge sharing going on.

Bravo.
