Good afternoon,

I am working on an assessment plan for my library and I would like to develop a decision matrix to prioritize projects. If you have used a decision matrix, e.g. Eisenhower, weighted criteria, decision grid, would you be willing to share it? Thank you.

We have used the Effort-Benefit matrix before: Low to High Effort, combined with Low to High Benefit or Importance.  It’s all subjective, but it does help put ideas into perspective.

Hi Leslie,

We're piloting a "prioritization tool" we adapted from Multnomah County Library. We also chatted with UC Santa Barbara about their strategic planning initiatives. They presented on the topic at the 2024 Library Assessment Conference.

We're using weighted criteria based on our Strategic Vision and other criteria like, University Request, Funding, Workload Improvement, and Improved Data Quality. A committee uses the tool to review projects submitted or discussed by the rest of the library. Then they are sent to the Deans office for final approval. The weighted criteria helps us communicate current priorities to the rest of the Library.

It's by no means perfect, but I'm excited with where we are headed!

We often use something similar to what Karen mentioned when we hold large staff workshops to discuss the data that comes out of our biennial student survey. Attached is a copy of the worksheet.

Best,

Joyce
