Hello all,

We’d like to chat with anyone who has conducted research into how well your library is meeting the needs of your neurodiverse population, and what changes your library has made to improve the library experiences for this population. We’ll be undertaking research into this at Duke next fall, and are interested in talking to colleagues about their experiences, and any tips based on your own experiences as to how to approach the research. We’d also love to see any of your scripts/guides/instruments for the studies.

Thanks!

Joyce

Hi Joyce,

A few years ago, I was part of a research team at UNC Charlotte's J. Murrey Atkins Library that conducted a study on the experiences of neurodivergent students.  You can find the report in UNC Charlotte's Institutional Repository. https://ninercommons.charlotte.edu/record/3861?ln=en&v=pdf. We actually modeled the study after work you and your colleagues conducted at Duke a few years ago for your Black Student Experience Study.

I have since moved to Colorado State University and am not sure what has been implemented at UNC Charlotte in support of this student population, but I would be happy to put you in touch with colleagues still at Charlotte if you message me directly.

Thanks!
Becky

Hi Joyce,

A couple of years ago, after discovering that the majority of students registered with our Disabled Students Program reported issues of ADHD and neurodivergence, we embarked on a project to improve library spaces for focused study. Attached is the report, including the survey we conducted and recommendations.

Best,
Rebecca
