Hi all

I've just started compiling atmel toolchain 3.4.5 on our build boxes.

I'll update pull request https://github.com/arduino/Arduino/pull/2393
when ready

Regards

Federico

Federico,

Thanks for the update. Would you mind giving a few lines summary of what the 3.4.5 toolchain update improvements and impacts are? What targets are affected?

Regards,
Vic

Hi Victor

GDB has been upgraded from 7.7 to 7.8

A complete list of bugs and fixes is available on atmel's pdf
http://distribute.atmel.no/tools/opensource/Atmel-AVR-GNU-Toolchain/3.4.5/avr8-gnu-toolchain-3.4.5.1522-readme.pdf
(page 7)
Being Atmel work, you won't find a list of affected Arduino boards, but
a list of Atmel MCUs

Our added value is about the speed of the windows version: now gcc is a
set of real windows binaries, with no emulation layer, and therefore
faster (roughly 20/30% faster)

I'm really happy to see that the Arduino IDE is now roughly tracking
the toolchain updates from Atmel. Very cool, and a great improvement.
Thank you for all your hard work on this.

Very exciting news. The speed improvement alone will be greatly appreciated. Let me know if you want some field testing, I can ask my students (those who use Windows) to test.

Hi everyone

A user reported a nasty issue with the IDE using windows [1]

Toolchain 3.4.5 from PR 2568 [2] is compiled without cygwin and
correctly handles things like apostrophes in folder names

I would really like to merge it, but first I need to have some go/nogo
from you :)

Looking forward for your feedback

Regards

Federico
