Good morning, APTrust and Friends,

After much discussion, we are officially launching a DART user group, which will initially be a mailing list. Please see the message below that went out to a list of folks Andrew provided before he left and individuals who starred or watched the DART GitHub repos.

If you use DART, having you on the list would be fantastic. Please also share this message with any colleagues who use DART. You should be able to sign up using the first link in the message below, but please let me know if you need help, and I will add you directly.

Thank you!
Nathan

Dear DART Users,

I hope you are doing well. We are excited to announce the formation of a new mailing list dedicated to users of DART, APTrust’s bagging and transfer tool. We aim to create a vibrant community around DART, fostering collaboration and knowledge-sharing among APTrust members and non-members from the broader digital preservation community.

To start, this community will primarily communicate through the mailing list, where users can share experiences, ask questions, and support one another. Depending on the level of interest and engagement, we may expand this initiative to include regular virtual meetings and more structured activities in the future.

As we embark on this journey, please be aware that DART development is paused while APTrust searches for a new Lead Developer following Andrew Diamond’s departure. This means we won’t be able to accommodate new feature requests or major updates immediately. However, this mailing list will be an excellent platform for gathering ideas and setting priorities once development resumes.

You will soon receive an invitation to join the mailing list via Google Groups. This note gives context to that invitation, and I encourage you to join and participate actively. Please feel free to share this news with anyone who uses DART, whether within or outside your organization.

Creating a DART user community will enhance everyone’s experience with the tool, and we look forward to your participation.

Thank you for your continued support! Please let me know if you have any questions.

Best wishes,
Nathan
