Announcing Apptainer 1.4.0-rc.2

The second release candidate of Apptainer 1.4.0 is now available.
This includes enhancements to new 1.4.0 features, including now showing
a full progress bar while creating SIF files by default and a bundled
mksquashfs that is built with maximum compression options. Support for
building containers for other emulated architectures is now included in
addition to the previous functionality of running them. This release
candidate also includes some bug fixes. For complete details see

Please test it and, if you see any problems, submit github issues.
If no significant problems are found the 1.4.0 full release will
probably be in about two weeks. The "main" branch documentation should
also now match the code in this release candidate, so if you find any
discrepancies there please also submit an issue on the documentation.

apptainer-1.4.0~rc.2 is now available in the epel-testing dnf repository
and the Fedora updates-testing dnf repository. Please test it if you
can and report problems you find. Since it is a release candidate, it
won't be promoted to stable but it will instead be replaced later by
another version in testing.

It can also be installed with "tools/install-unprivileged.sh -v 1.4.0~rc.2'
(note that is a tilde, not a hyphen). For installation details see
