Contact groups via import

In the past, a user who wanted to create a contact group of a bunch of people (e.g. a class of students) could import a csv file with names and addresses, and when they did this they were prompted to select a contact group or create a new contact group for those imported people.   An instructor was trying to do it again this semester but there seems to be no way to select a contact group for the import anymore - all imported contacts just go into his "My Contacts".  Does anyone know what happened to this feature?

When you import from a csv now all the contacts you get imported get placed in a new group with the date (ie Imported 1/9/2012).  So what I do is import a class, click the new group they were placed in, select all, and create a new group.
