Background about the New Energy Summit:
The mission of the New Energy Summit is to increase the capacity of early-stage energy and climate researchers to accelerate transitions to equitable and sustainable energy systems and a healthy climate via interdisciplinary scholarship and collaboration. Each year, the Summit convenes a new cohort of scholars from a wide range of disciplines in an intimate setting for structured and unstructured creative exchange and peer-to-peer networking. Over four days on the Dartmouth College campus, participants engage in interactive workshops, lightning talks, panel discussions, and networking with each other, senior faculty and practitioners. Attendees join an expanding “New Energy Network” of Summit alumni for continued exchange of ideas and opportunities.
“The summit is a one-of-a-kind event and collaboration/incubator for energy-related projects across disciplines, and I find that to be very useful. This is particularly important as it shows the multidimensionality of the energy challenge but also allows us as researchers to embrace new ways of approaching the problem.” ‘23 New Energy Summit attendee
“I left the summit feeling renewed and excited to continue in my work, and to continue collaborating with others from more technical fields. I think there are many kinds of change needed for a just energy transition and that these changes can come from many different directions. The summit gave me more insight as to how interdisciplinary collaboration can be mutually strengthening between folks working toward a shared end goal, with different focus areas and ideas of how to get there.” ‘24 New Energy Summit attendee
“One of the most effective elements of the summit was the emphasis on interdisciplinary collaboration through team-based activities and breakout discussions. These sessions encouraged participants to engage deeply, challenge assumptions, and co-create ideas across different areas of expertise.” - '25 attendee
Interested advanced PhD students, postdocs, and assistant professors can apply to attend the Summit by filling out the New Energy Summit Application Form. The deadline to apply is April 1. Accepted applicants receive travel and lodging reimbursement.
