The Science and Technologies for Phosphorus Sustainability (STEPS) Center will support up to 15 students for ten weeks (May 19, 2026 - July 30, 2026) through a multi-institutional, interdisciplinary Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program. Students will begin the summer together at a one-week orientation where they will learn more about the Center, convergence research, and the wicked problem of phosphorus sustainability. During the remaining nine weeks, students will work on independent research projects within the Center under the mentorship of STEPS Scholars and faculty. In addition to research projects in STEPS laboratories, all REU participants will practice skills in convergence research through a collaborative cohort project. Students will come back together at the end of the program to present their work. All participants will receive a $7,000 stipend in addition to housing and travel to program sites.
