Hi all,

The Conservation and Land Management Program (CLM) at the Chicago Botanic Garden offers real-world experience to recent college graduates and early-career professionals interested in land management, applied ecology, botany, and native seed collection. We hire folks to work with the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), US Forest Service (USFS), and US Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS). Open positions for the 2024 season will be posted soon on the CBG Job Board Page. Seeds of Success positions:

The Chicago Botanic Garden will soon be hiring 38 positions working on Seeds of Success crews in several Bureau of Land Management Field Offices. 

Most teams will be made up of a Lead Botanist (5-6 months), a Natural Resources Specialist (5-6 months), and a Field Technician (3 months). We anticipate the Field Technician positions to be filled by undergraduates or newly graduated folks. Positions and anticipated dates for the Lead Botanist and Natural Resources Specialist positions are below:

 

California:

·         Bishop Field Office: Bishop, CA – April 1st – August 30th, 22 weeks

·         Cosumnes River Preserve: Sacramento, CA – April 15th – September 13th, 22 weeks

·         Eagle Lake and Applegate Field Offices: Susanville, CA – May 20th – October 18th, 22 weeks

·         Redding Field Office: Redding, CA – April 15th – September 13th, 22 weeks

·         Ukiah Field Office: Ukiah, CA – April 15th – September 13th, 22 weeks

·         Senior Botanist to assist in coordinating CA SOS crews: Sacramento, CA – March 18th – August 30th, 24 weeks. (Requires MS)

·         El Centro Field Office: El Centro, CA – March 18th – August 15th, 22 weeks

·         Southern Nevada District Office: Las Vegas, NV – January 15th - September 27th, 37 weeks

Great Basin:

·         Cedar City Field Office: Cedar City, UT – April 1st – October 4th, 27 weeks

 

USFWS Midwest

·         We plan to hire a Botanist (10 months, starting late Jan) and two Field Technicians (5.5 months, starting early May) conducting Seeds of Success collections in support of the US Fish and Wildlife Service in the Midwest. This team will likely be based at a USFWS office in East Lansing, MI, scouting and collecting at public and private partner lands, as well as USFWS refuges. ·         Boise, ID: native seed and plant tissue collection, common garden data collection, alpine vegetation monitoring

·         Rapid City, SD: assist in botanical field data collection for a drought, climate change, and grazing study on northern mixed-grass prairie communities

 

USFWS:

·         Klamath Falls, OR: survey and monitor various threatened animal species in support of the Klamath Falls FWS office; focus on fish and electrofishing
