Sakai 10: Gradebook and Assignments - comments not appearing in Gradebook after bulk upload to Assignments

Dear All

We have an administrator who set up an assignment, and associated it with a new Gradebook item.
After students have submitted, the administrator downloads all the assignment submissions in bulk and sends them to the grader. The grader inserts the grade, as well comments into the comments.txt file for each student.

The administrator zips the folders and does a bulk upload back into the Assignments tool.
In Assignments, the grades and comments appear. But in Gradebook, only the grades show up ... the comments are not transfereed from comments.txt into the Gradebook.

Has anyone else come across this issue?

Comments should go to the gradebook from Assignments when released. 

Depending on the version of Sakai you are running, there was a recent patch to update this issue if the gradebook item was created in the gradebook but associated with the assignment. This was the only time I saw this issue happen.

Thanks for responses.... we are on Sakai 10.0

Jimmy - yes, it works if the grades have been released and you are doing everything in the Sakai interface.

Laura... I looked at those two jiras... thanks. However, not quite the same thing...

I am referring to what happens when you use the bulk download from Assignments, enter the comments in the comments.txt file for each student, and then bulk upload back to Assignments and release the grades. However the comments that were uploaded via bulk upload do not appear in Gradebook.

I know there was this issue fixed in 11 where ungraded assignments weren't getting into any gradebook, but that wasn't backported to 10, and it sounds like  you have a graded assignment so it's not the problem. https://jira.sakaiproject.org/browse/SAK-22012

It could be https://jira.sakaiproject.org/browse/SAK-29517 as Laura mentioned if the gradebook was created by Assignment rather than linked (which is the most common case)

I'd recommend upgrading to the most recent 10.x or at least testing it out on nightly to see if it's reproducable. 10.0 is a pretty old version and there have been some changes to this workflow since then.
