Interesting, we haven’t had any faculty with issues uploading unless their quota has been reached or if it is an internet issue.

If you are an Office365 school you may have access to Stream to load videos and link to them as well.
WE also use Warpwire and have been working to remove/move video files in Resources over the past year. I am unaware of access issues anywhere on the globe.

Stream in Office365 will also auto-caption files – which can be super beneficial for students with may have hearing impairment.

At Duke, we utilize Warpwire. Disclaimer: The company is located across from our campus and has some ties to the university. Not a sys admin so can't speak to what type of performance hit there could be. However, I'd recommend utilizing a service specifically designed for streaming video (Warpwire, YouTube, Vimeo, Zoom, etc). If those aren't possible, at least moving the files out of Sakai and onto a cloud management service (Box, Dropbox, OneDrive, Google Drive, etc) would at least get the burden of file storage out of Sakai. If a link is created to a video file on most of these services, they were stream the file for the viewer.

[This message came from an external source. If suspicious, report to ab...@ilstu.edu]
1) Could so many videos playing out of Resources cause performance issues instance wide?
2) What kind of help are you providing to your faculty? Do you increase their quotas so they can do it? Or do you provide instructions on how to upload to whatever streaming video service you provide?
I hate to think of future support issues if this continues. Or am I being paranoid?

Tonco,
I’m curious – we also use Stream (have it) and largely use it to create closed captioning for our videos. I wish stream had an LTI. My question in your implementation is how do you set the permissions for assets (videos or libraries) so that your users easily have access to the files?

Currently, we have all our video's on Stream and embed them in the Lessons of courses, using the embed code.

We do this, too – use Stream and embed the videos in Lessons.
For some videos, we set the permissions to “everyone with an account on our 365”. But most of them, we set to the students for that course. I set up groups for each course (by Cohort so I don’t need to make so many groups). You can also add people individually – which I do for the one or two classes where we have students from another cohort.

Yes, that’s the way to do it. We just recently moved our videos from Kaltura to Stream so I’ve been handling everything (we’re a small college). We will most likely train our instructors once we get through the current events.
Kathy
I see I never replied back on this thread. (Sorry)
We did have some folks putting MP4’s right into Resources. Ick. We used some reporting from Longsight to comb through sites and identify those sites with the largest resource quotas. From that we looked and created Warpwire libraries, ported the videos, placed them into the courses (which was also a good invitation for course update/redesign) and then eliminated the original videos in Resources.
We do so using the reporting form Longsight – and our course offerings (when/how often the course is offered) to guide the triage process.

Great question Luisa!
There’s information about who to talk to here: https://www.warpwire.com. I’d suggest you let them know you’d like to speak with Andrew, though I’m sure anyone of their people can be of help.
We appreciate the fact that they use a global content delivery backbone – and the integration with Tsugi tools and analytics has been great. As I told another administrator earlier today – our cost has not increased – except to cover our usage – but Warpwire has continued to deliver new features and improvements each year – and we’ve been a happy client since 2015, when we switched from a flash-based platform.
