Instructions to Upload Adobe Captivate Projects onto Sakai

Looking for assistance to upload published adobe captivate 10 projects onto Sakai. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

We'd be interested in this as well.  We had a faculty recently asking about Articulate module.  She was running the module at her previous institution on Moodle.  Apparently Moodle supports uploading TinCan api module and running very seamlessly.  We told her, sadly, that she has to make do with running her module as a standalone HTML5 web site (sigh!!).

Sakai does not support TinCan modules nor Scorm directly.  You can subscribe to ScormCloud and link via LTI to a course site in Sakai, but there is cost to that.

I'd be curious what other schools do or are thinking of doing. In this age of NGDLE we need better ways to seamlessly integrate tools.  (Maybe Dr. Chuck has some Tsugi suggestions.)

It is a file folder and has all the components. From Resources we just copy the URL for the presentation.html file (says format iexplore.exe)

Maybe we are on a different version of Articulate?

Do your Articulate modules allow for any graded activities?  If so are you able to get those to the gradebook?

What we were directed to by our faculty member were TinCan and Scorm versions of Articulate module.  Maybe we need the 'raw' output. We are very Articulate ignorant here.

Anyone else with Articulate or Captivate knowledge, please join in.

We have to keep our Articulate360/Storyline modules in the SCORM cloud, providing a link to students thru Sakai-Lessons. The faculty member can then go to the SCORM cloud and check data. They can then turn around and manually enter data from SCORM cloud, e.g. completion of the module, into the Sakai GB. It's not ideal.

Otherwise, Articulate360/Storyline modules are ungraded, used for review or remediation or practice.

Captivate is the same way (for us). We can use the modules but they do not collect data unless we put them in the SCORM cloud. Please note, saving Articulate360 and Captivate files in SCORM format sometimes causes loss of display integrity. For example, at one point, saving in SCORM format (or html5) disallowed the display of the letter "f". We had to change the font across the whole presentation. I believe it is related to Captivate being a flash based tool, originally. Just sayin' ~ you don't want to be too creative in font choice (we weren't) but we ended up changing to Arial to avoid this annoying situation. For some reason, the professor wasn't satisfied with taking out all the "f's" !! 😜

We have at Notre Dame with a pilot project.  Since H5P does not yet have LTI, we ran the module in our Wordpress site.  It also has xAPI output so were able to capture the activity data into our Open LRS environment.  H5P is supposed to come out with H5P.org with LTI capabilities this year.  Not sure when.

Incidentally, Wordpress has an LTI as well.  Anyone using Wordpress in Sakai community with LTI.  So you could do LTI to Wordpress with H5P content running there.  For those who are wondering about Grassblade, it is software that lets you also run xAPI content (from Captivate or Articulate) in Wordpress.  Maybe it can be used with Sakai as well.  A Tsugi project ??

So there are 2 worlds -- the world of IMS Global with LTI and Caliper (mostly higher ed) and the world of SCORM/TinCan/xAPI  content and output  that Articulate and Adobe products come from.  NGDLE needs to bring them together and work together!!

I’ve not actually done this in any production situation, but I thought SCORM Cloud could be configured to use LTI.  If you could do that then you could (I think) have it set to automatically return grades from SCORM Cloud to Sakai’s gradebook tool via LTI, too. 

 

I feel like I’d tested that with a free SCORM Cloud account several years ago, but my memory is very hazy and things may have changed.

Do your Articulate modules allow for any graded activities?  If so are you able to get those to the gradebook?

 

What we were directed to by our faculty member were TinCan and Scorm versions of Articulate module.  Maybe we need the 'raw' output. We are very Articulate ignorant here.

 

Anyone else with Articulate or Captivate knowledge, please join in.

We’ve created small storyline chunks of material and embed short Tests from the Test & Quizzes tool between these small chunks.  We conditionally release each chunk of material based on a passing score of 80% or better on the test. We also use Test & Quizzes to build a pre-test; post-test along with a final course survey.  After some of the modules we insert a link to a forum and require them to post and then respond to 2 classmates prior to moving to the next chunk of storyline material. Polls can also be inserted where needed.  Any questions built within the storyline are used only for feedback to the student and not collected. 

 

Grades posted by the instructor from the forum and scores from test and quizzes go to the gradebook where the passing score is set up for the course. 

 

Not perfect but it has worked well for us and the assessments can be adjusted if needed – double-score question, regrade and republish, give extra credit, etc.

Are you using Scorm-cloud with your Articulate Storyline  and linking this to Sakai through LTI?  So I take it you are using Lessons to provide link to the 'chunks' of storyline and the quizzes given between the chunks?

Just trying to get a picture of how your are doing the Articulate Storyline publishing and how you are integrating with Sakai.

Someone at our school wants to use Storyline for a project.

Hi Pat, I am not using SCORM cloud - I export from Storyline the chunks in html5 zipped up and upload them to a Resources folder. There is an import within Lessons but I prefer to create my own folder structure under Resources- a little cleaner order when I import the course materials the following semester. I then embed the html5 link to the presentation within the course between test and forums links and apply conditions for passing. I'm not in today but I'd be happy to do a zoom web meeting and show you sometime this week if you're interested in seeing it. Our Early Pregnancy module was recently presented at a national family medicine conference was very well received.

I did the same 2 months ago with Sakai 11.4 and a SCORM presentation
created in Adobe Captivate 6, and it appeared to work correctly.
We need to test more (and we prefer not to rely on an external site).

I've been trying to follow this thread and am a bit confused.

So what's the bottom line on Articulate Storyline in Sakai via Scorm Cloud. Does it work? Is one required to play Scormcloud? I've gotten two inquiries during the last week.

For one, we decided to strip out the quiz from Storyline and just serve the HTML in Sakai and use the Quiz tool in sakai.

Bottom-line for us on Storyline/Articulate360 is that if we want to collect ANY data, the module needs to stay in the SCORM cloud, we simply provide a URL in lessons at the appropriate spot (students never know they are interacting with SCORM cloud). Otherwise, SL/Articulate modules are for practice, remediation or review.

Alternatively, SL/Arti/Captivate folders/files can be uploaded (in-tact) to Resources and linked out to Lessons or wherever but they are also NOT data collecting, i.e., don't feed any data to the GB

I've NEVER seen SL/Articulate/Captivate (any interactive module) actually integrated and sending data to the Sakai GB, LTi or otherwise. I understand some people have theories about how it should/could work but I'd have to see it in action to believe it.
