Has anyone seen this error from students submitting assignments?

“Alert: Operation could not be completed at this time.”

Eventually they can submit.  They are uploading Word .doc files and jpg files.

I found this JIRA https://jira.sakaiproject.org/browse/SAK-29273

However, it doesn’t really address that the student can submit later. I also am not sure how it is tying to resources when they are uploading new content to the assignment.  I guess I am not sure what Resource I am setting the permissions.

Any ideas?

Jennifer

Hi Jennifer,

We had a similar problem like what you are describing by students in a certain course site during our last semester.  Unfortunately, we could never reproduce it nor could our vendor.  We were running Sakai 11.4 at the time but we are now running Sakai 12.2.  This is not to say upgrading fixed it, it just hasn’t repeated since though we have minimal usage during the summer (no reports of problem as of today) but now that I mentioned it, I probably jinxed it!  J

Thanks Shawn,

Yes it seems to be 1 course and we are on 11.4 and not upgrading until December.

Hi Jennifer,

The Resources read permission affects the user's ability to read content throughout a site, including file attachments in most tools.  Using Sakai 11.2, when I upload an attachment to an assignment as a student and check the user events, the following event is generated before my file is uploaded:

availability check for attachment collection /attachment/6e22ac31-b9df-4c64-a193-6e12979f145c/Assignments/d635073c-e969-42b9-b7bd-f0db9bc4f80e/

I would guess that this is tied to the content read permission.  If I go to the Resources tool and remove the Read resources permission from students, then try to upload an attachment as a student to an assignment, I get a nasty user-facing bug report (stack trace).  I don't get an error message as described in SAK-29273.

Was your assignment ever assigned with group submissions and then changed to be assigned to individual students, or was it assigned to groups and any groups to whom it was released changed or deleted?  We've seen some very strange behavior with dummy records being created in the database when the release target changes.  Here's an example of one such issue (not what you are experiencing, but if any dummy records were created in the DB, they can cause problems for students trying to submit and/or view grades): https://jira.sakaiproject.org/browse/SAK-32064
