That is a great post.  Sums things up nicely.

The true contribution of Sakai was a decade of innovation (2002-2012) where a creative team embraced the ideas of everyone from students, to faculty, to instructional designers, IT staff and technical staff.  No other effort in history has contributed more to improving the understand of what an LMS should be than Sakai.

Alas, we did not put shareholder value at front-of-mind and had some internal leadership squabbles in the 2007-2010 timeframe that left the door wide open for someone else to come in and take away all our financial and market inertia.

Ah well, someday I will write a book about it all which no one will read :)

Melissa is someone to watch - If something great or next generation ever happens in EdTech I fully expect her to be at the front of it.
