We’ve deployed Sakai on two servers with sufficient memory, resources, and load balancing. However, we’re noticing that a single server can only handle up to around 250 concurrent users during Tests & Quizzes before performance degrades.

Has anyone else experienced similar scalability limits with Sakai for real-time assessments? Any insights or tuning recommendations would be appreciated. Thank you.

250 concurrent users sounds about right. You can tune with more CPU, more memory, faster DB, etc. The next step would be to analyze with Yourkit and to try to optimize calls to the database. JSF view state is notoriously complex and encrypted view state serialization/deserialization requires a lot of CPU.

  Thanks for the insights, @ottenhof
 We wanted to check if there are any known issues or performance bottlenecks related to JSF view state handling in Sakai 20.x. Also, have there been any improvements or optimizations in this area in Sakai 25.x?

Yes, there are many performance issues solved in more recent versions of Sakai. Sakai 20 is extremely old and no longer supported. You need to upgrade to the latest version of Sakai.

Thanks:
We are in the process of upgrading and also testing it.
What is the expected no of  users one sakai25 instance can handle with
adequate resources. This information would be of great use to us. Please
let us know.
