Query: Configuring DB Connection Pool (Min/Max) for Sakai – Defaults & Recommended Values

Hi all,

We are currently running Sakai 20 and planning to upgrade to Sakai 25 soon. While reviewing our database configuration, we noticed that sakai.properties does not contain any parameters for setting the DB connection pool max or min size.

I have a few questions and would appreciate guidance from the community:

1. Where should the database connection pool size be configured if it is not defined in sakai.properties?

2. What are the default values (min/max) used by Sakai for DB connection pooling?

3. For a production deployment with around 4000 users, what would be the recommended values for:

   • Minimum DB connections

   • Maximum DB connections

Any suggestions, best practices, or version-specific considerations (especially when moving from Sakai 20 to Sakai 25) would be very helpful.

Hi there

We run Sakai as our LMS

The DB connection pool settings we normally set in the config files on the MySQL or MariaDB server.
