Hi all
I want to ask a question: How do Sakai update the CKeditor?

I've looked at CKeditor releases and wonder how Sakai community track progress and decide when/how to upgrade (and customize) the CKeditor.

Currently it seems Nightly Master build is using CKEditor 4.5.7 (revision e98277f)
Looking at https://dev.ckeditor.com/roadmap?show=completed&sfp_email=&sfph_mail= it seems that CKEditor 4.6.2 is the latest stable release.

I'm just ...curious. I did not find much in Jira... But I'm terrible at finding my way around that place.

Here is a ticket which updated the CKEditor to 4.4.3: https://jira.sakaiproject.org/browse/SAK-27572

As far as decision, usually we'll try to update to the latest CKEditor dot release prior to a major release of Sakai. Since it's webjars now upgrading the actual editor to whatever is in the webjars repo is easy, the harder part is making sure all of the plugins we use are updated and compatible, and the toolbar to launch it is still functional. We also have to consider external tools like Kaltura, Mediasite, Warpwire, Accessibility checker, etc that have plugins for CKEditor and really don't want to break them without enough time for them to get fixed. Though the 3 months of RC before a release is a good time for that.

During Sakai minor releases we won't pick up a big jump for CKEditor version to avoid breaking any plugins. Locally if you're building from source can try to update whenever you like though but you may encounter some issues.
