Hello Sakai Devs,

I'm talking with Microsoft support to try and resolve an issue concerning ical subscriptions to the Sakai Calendar tool.  When I generate a url on the "Publish (Private)" tab, the webcal one works fine in Google calendar and Outlook on the desktop, and it passes the ical validation sites I found.

However, when I add it to the Outlook web application the calendar appears in the list of calendars but none of the events appear, and no error message is shown.

Before being able to open a ticket with the products team, I was asked to confirm with the vendor (Sakai) that the Outlook Web Application is supported.  So, should the private ".ics" url work for subscribing via Outlook web?

Thanks,

Curtis.

Curtis,

Somehow I missed this before.

MS Outlook is supported for definite.

We did once ask our Exchange team to enable subscription via OWA and there were definitely issues. From what I can remember the events showed in the calendar just fine but there was some issue with a lag in syncing. I thought the delay was (just about) acceptable (better than nothing) but they disagreed so it never got enabled.

I don’t seem to have any record of the email exchange I’m afraid.

Do you see events in Outlook but not in OWA – that may tell you something.

If you want to send me a public calendar URL, I can see if it displays in my Outlook?

Thanks for the response Adam,

I managed to escalate the issue with Microsoft to the product team, so I'm expecting a reply later this week with more details about what's going on.

Do you remember what had to be done to allow subscriptions to Sakai in OWA?  We have the option to add calendars from internet, and it works with other ics files (from google for example), but the ones from Sakai are never synced.  In fact, looking at the access logs the file is never even requested.

If you want to try this URL in OWA it might be helpful.  There is an event tomorrow at noon (EST), and yes it works in Outlook but not OWA.

I'll advise everyone of Microsoft's answer, but it really appears to me that OWA accepts ics files from some domains but not others.  Our sysadmins aren't aware of any option for Exchange (or what have you) that would allow other domains.

Curtis.

The Exchange team did have to do something to get it all working, then they backed out the changes – this means I cant test now I’m afraid.
