TL;DR: I wanted to share that the dates for "Open Apereo 2022: The Value of Open Source" have been set: June 14th and 15th. Sessions will run between 400 and 1800 UTC (0900 and 1300 US Eastern) to ensure the broadest possible participation globally. Keep an eye open for the Call for Proposals, which is coming soon!
Details: This year's focus is on the value of open source software to address higher ed's top IT issues and drive digital transformation (Dx). International organizations are devoting significant resources to help educational institutions understand, plan for, and successfully implement Dx, including,
- EDUCAUSE's "Dx Journey: Learn, Plan, Do"
- The European Commission's "Digital Education Action Plan (2021-2027)"
- Jisc's "2030 Strategy Framework for University Leaders" and
- UNESCO's "The DigitalTransformation of Education: Connecting Schools, Empowering Learners."
While the direction is clear--digital transformation--many issues hinder adoption and limit impact, ultimately undermining Dx.
"Open Apereo 2022: The Value of Open Source" highlights the significant role open source software and communities of practice play in addressing IT's--indeed the institution's--top issues to deliver the education campuses deserve through Dx. Or, as Forrester puts it, "open source powers enterprise digital transformation," urging, "CIOs need to embrace open source software to drive change."
