Dear Patrick Masson,

Today, we, the Free Software Foundation Europe, a charity organisation that empowers users to control their technology, would like to share the news about the start of the third round of our coding competition, Youth Hacking 4 Freedom, with you.

To make this contest a great experience for teenagers from all over Europe we need your help:
Registration for the third edition of the Youth Hacking 4 Freedom contest is now open! This competition offers young Europeans between 14 and 18 years old the opportunity to design and develop their own project using Free Software and win more than 4,000 Euro in cash.

Please help us to spread the message to as many young Europeans as possible to make them aware of YH4F.

Youth Hacking 4 Freedom is a coding contest for everyone, no matter if they are really advanced programmers or just started to write their first line of code. Run by the Free Software Foundation Europe, the 2024 competition kicks off on 7 December with an online event to answer participants' questions before the coding period starts in January 2024.

Participants can register here for the opening event and Youth Hacking 4 Freedom 2024: https://survey.fsfe.org/index.php/658534

Youth Hacking 4 Freedom offers participants the chance to meet other teenagers from all over Europe and build friendships that can last a lifetime. Participants also learn to work on their own software project and organise their ideas. This helps them to develop their skills in time-management and project planing. It also gives them a chance to be creative and develop something they really like. From our past experience, participants are really proud of themselves for submitting a project and it has helped them in other learning situations. And of course, most importantly, they enjoyed taking part and meeting other young people from Europe.

In brief:
• Participants must be born between 1 January 2004 and 31 December 2008, and must be between 14 and 18 years old at the time of registration.
• Participation is free, but registration is mandatory. Registration is open throughout the coding period. For registering please share this link: https://survey.fsfe.org/index.php/658534
• The opening event is on 7 December 2023
• The coding period is between 1 January and 30 June 2024.
• During the coding period participants are free to join the monthly online meetings.
• The first-, second-, and third-place winners will receive €4,096, €2,048, and €1,024, respectively. There will also be three special prizes each about €1,024. Overall, around 10,000 Euro will be awarded.
• Each participant, who submitted a project will also receive a certification of participation and a special prize.
• The competition will be conducted remotely, except for the award ceremony, which will take place in Brussels during a weekend in October 2024 (to which the winners and a family member will be invited on an all-expenses-paid basis).

If you want to help young people in your network to join the contest, please share our call for registration with a post on your website, a mention in your Newsletter, or a social media post. You find all related information on the YH4F website [1], such as the process, the eligibility criteria, and FAQs [2]. You can also find more information about the successful previous editions on our webpage [3].

Please share this information with teenagers, teachers within your network of “Apereo Foundation” and be part of YH4F 2024! If you have any question please feel free to reach out to me at any time.
Thank you for your help! We are happy to answer any questions you might have.

Best regards,
Bonnie Mehring
