What's a good way to get started customizing/configuring your CAS server?
I have the WAR overlay, and to get started I will create an empty deployerConfigContext.xml
while not touching all the other XML files (yet).
Then I should write an authenticationHandlersResolvers map in my deployerConfigContext.xml so that the
PolicyBasedAuthenticationManager bean will get initialized.

Is that a good way to start?

Yes, obtain a clean copy of that file from your distribution and start there. Try to keep your core changes to a minimum, and if you come across an idea where you think the platform should handle it for you rather than you making the change, please share that idea with the list and lets talk.
