How to use os environment variables in CAS properties to hide sensitive information?

We are currently using CAS 5.3
How can we hide sensitive information like authentication details in the cas properties file by using the os environment variables?

One option is spring cloud config,

You can also specify values in setenv.sh for tomcat (if you use that):
CATALINA_OPTS="$CATALINA_OPTS -
Dcas.host.name
=tomt"
