Discussion Topic: Badges/Microcredentials (Dr. Chuck Severance)

Dr. Chuck is building an open source badging tool in Tsugi that can integrate into Sakai and other LMSs via LTI. Currently, commercial badging services like Credly and Parchment dominate the market. An open source badging system offers an alternative for institutions that don't want to be locked into a commercial badge vendor for the lifetime of their microcredentials. Dr. Chuck will demo his badging tool and ask for feedback on these questions:

• Does your institution currently issue badges or microcredentials? If yes, what system do you use?
• Does your institution plan to issue badges for microcredentials in the future? 
• What functional requirements do institutions have for issuing and validating badges? 
• From a user perspective (faculty and/or student), how would you like them to work?
