Hello Apereo Community,
We’re excited to share that Georgia Tech’s LibreTech Collective (LTC) has officially joined the Apereo Foundation as our newest Community Member.
Founded and led by Georgia Tech students, LibreTech Collective is the university’s only student-run organization dedicated exclusively to Free, Libre, and Open-Source Software (FLOSS). Guided by the Four Essential Freedoms, LTC is grounded in a clear and values-driven belief: technology should empower—not restrict—its users.
This Community Membership reflects a strong alignment between LTC’s mission and Apereo’s long-standing commitment to open, community-powered software for education. Just as importantly, it opens the door for something we care deeply about as a Foundation: helping students move from interest and theory into real-world open source contribution.
A Call for Project MentorsStudents in the LibreTech Collective are highly motivated to learn, contribute, and become active members of open source communities. Many are eager to gain hands-on experience working on mature, mission-driven projects—and this is where Apereo projects can make a meaningful difference.
We invite Apereo-supported projects that are interested in:
Mentoring students new to open source
Offering guidance on contribution pathways
Welcoming student contributors into their communities
to reach out to us at comm...@apereo.org.
Mentorship can take many forms—office hours, onboarding documentation, starter issues, or informal guidance—and has a lasting impact not only on students, but on the long-term health of our projects and communities.
By working together, we can help cultivate the next generation of open source contributors, maintainers, and leaders—while advancing ethical, open technologies that support learning at scale.
Thank you for being part of a community that believes in openness, collaboration, and investing in people.
Warm regards,
The Apereo Foundation Team

P.P.S. If you live in the Atlanta area and are interested in joining LibreTech Collective at one of their monthly meetings to introduce Apereo and Apereo-supported projects in person, please reach out to Michelle Hall (michel...@apereo.org). This is a great opportunity to connect directly with students and share how Apereo projects make a real-world impact.
