We are delighted to share some exciting news! The Software Freedom Conservancy has selected The Apereo Foundation to organize the "FOSS in Education" track at the upcoming FOSSY 2024 conference. This prestigious event will take place from August 1st to 4th at Portland State University in Portland, Oregon, USA. We are thrilled to be at the forefront of discussions on the significant role of Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) in educational environments.
The "FOSS in Education" track will highlight the profound impact educational institutions have on the development and propagation of open source software and broader open initiatives. Colleges and universities have long been leaders in advancing various open educational resources, including open content, textbooks, courses, journals, data, and scientific research. This track will explore the multifaceted contributions of higher education to the open source community.
Call for Presentation ProposalsWe invite you to contribute to the "FOSS in Education" track by submitting a presentation proposal. This is a unique opportunity to share your insights, experiences, and best practices with a diverse audience of educators, administrators, software developers, and other open source projects and communities. Your presentation can cover a wide range of topics, including but not limited to:
Using open resources (software, content, data, research, etc.) within academic settings
Developing and managing open source projects on campus
Working across communities: higher education institutions and open source projects/foundations.
Openness in science, research, and/or academics.
Open source, from multi-institutional consortia to course-specific projects
Common principles and practices of open initiatives
Benefits and challenges of FOSS in education
Models impacting teaching, learning, and campus administration
