As 2024 draws to a close, the staff are reflecting on the incredible strides our community has made this year thanks to our senses of humor (deepy important), goodwill, fierce determination and dedication to Apereo's mission and values! 1. Register for Our Final Micro Conference of 2024
We are delighted to welcome Dr. Manuel Hoffmann, a Postdoctoral Scholar at the Laboratory for Innovation Science at Harvard, as our featured speaker on Wednesday, December 11, at 11:00 AM Eastern Time. Dr. Hoffmann will discuss quantifiable methods for evaluating the Value of Open Source, followed by a live Q&A session. This micro conference is a fantastic opportunity to engage with insights that can benefit your institution and projects.

2. Support the Friends of Apereo Campaign or Make a Year-End Donation
This #GivingTuesday (or anytime before the year’s end), consider joining the Friends of Apereo Campaign. Your contributions support our open source initiatives that empower educators and technologists worldwide. Every donation strengthens Apereo’s voice and impact, making open source solutions more accessible and innovative.
- Engaging Micro Conferences: This year, Apereo hosted eight micro conferences featuring distinguished guest speakers like Martin Dougiamas, Karen M. Sandler, and Simon Phipps. These sessions connected hundreds of educators and technologists, sparking meaningful discussions on many topics in open source.
- Xerte Project Milestone: Celebrating 18 years of Xerte, the community continued improving this versatile e-learning tool to serve institutions globally.
- Open Source Software in Higher Education Report: Apereo began gathering partners and perspectives from educators worldwide. This initiative will highlight the growing adoption of open source and its critical value in academia.
- Many projects gathered in person or online, and folks found great joy in being with their community! Apereo is proud to support so many outstanding projects and initiatives. Thank you to our outstanding Project Leaders and volunteers for making this possible!
- Apereo led open source in education, science, and research tracks at the FOSSY and OW2 conferences. We are showing our expertise, and people are interested in what we have to say! We will be returning to both conferences in 2025!
- Administrative Upgrades: Behind the scenes the staff did a ton of work on infrastructure, process implementation, networking and planning that will help Apereo grow well into the future.
