Join the Sakai Teaching & Learning + UX Call – March 4th, 2026
When: Wednesday, March 4th, 2026
Time: 11:00 AM ET (-5 UTC)
We’re excited to invite the public to the combined Sakai Teaching & Learning and UX call, where we’ll explore the future of badges and microcredentials in open source learning environments.
AgendaWelcome & Announcements – 5 min
Discussion Topic: Badges & Microcredentials
Led by Dr. Chuck Severance, who is building an open-source badging tool in Tsugi that integrates with Sakai and other LMSs via LTI.
Currently, commercial badging platforms like Credly and Parchment dominate the market. Dr. Severance’s tool provides a free, open alternative for institutions seeking control over the lifetime of their microcredentials.
During the session, he will demo the tool and explore these key questions:
Does your institution currently issue badges or microcredentials? If yes, what system do you use?
Does your institution plan to issue badges in the future?
What functional requirements do institutions have for issuing and validating badges?
From a user perspective (faculty or student), how would you like badges to work?
