A Warm Welcome to the Samvera Community

Dear Apereo Community,
On behalf of the Apereo Foundation Board of Directors and staff, we are delighted to officially welcome the Samvera Community to the Apereo ecosystem.
For many of you, Samvera will already be a familiar name. For others, this is an exciting opportunity to discover a community that has long led the way in open source digital repository technologies for libraries, archives, and research institutions.
Samvera develops and sustains the open source software that helps organizations preserve, manage, and share some of their most valuable digital assets, from institutional repositories and scholarly publications to audiovisual collections, archival materials, and cultural heritage resources. Their work ensures that knowledge remains accessible, discoverable, and preserved for future generations.
Like Apereo, Samvera is much more than software.
It is a vibrant international community of developers, librarians, archivists, repository managers, researchers, and institutional leaders who believe that the most important digital infrastructure should be built through collaboration, be governed openly, and be sustained by the communities that rely on it.
As part of the Apereo ecosystem, Samvera joins our growing family of project communities dedicated to supporting teaching, learning, research, identity management, scheduling, accessibility, and now, digital preservation and stewardship. Together, we strengthen an ecosystem that spans the entire lifecycle of knowledge from creating it, to teaching with it, to preserving it for generations yet to come.
Samvera's community includes three core open source platforms:
Avalon Media System: Designed specifically for managing and providing access to audiovisual collections, including video, audio recordings, oral histories, and digitized media.
Hyrax: A highly customizable repository framework that enables institutions to build repository solutions tailored to their specific collections, workflows, and preservation requirements.
Hyku: Built on Hyrax, Hyku provides a more turnkey repository solution that allows organizations to get up and running quickly while still benefiting from the flexibility of the broader Samvera ecosystem.
These projects complement Apereo's existing communities while opening exciting opportunities for collaboration between educators, librarians, technologists, researchers, and digital preservation professionals.
We are also pleased to share that Heather Greer Klein will be continuing in her role as Samvera Community Manager. Heather has long been a respected leader within the Samvera community, and we are thrilled to welcome her as a colleague. Her experience in community leadership, open governance, and educational technology will be an incredible asset not only for Samvera but also for the entire Apereo community.
