Open Source has always been about people — about communities coming together to share ideas, solve problems, and build something greater than the sum of its parts. Apereo represents a great group of humans dedicated to advancing the values of open source in education, where openness amplifies what higher education stands for: developing critical thinking, preparing learners for meaningful careers, fostering social and intellectual growth, and serving society through research and community engagement.

The upcoming events at the end of 2025 and in early 2026 are your chance to learn, connect, and strengthen our global community, all while having fun in the process. We need you to submit a proposal and register for the conferences! Please also SHARE this email with others at your institutions, on your social platforms and within your communities. These events are open for everyone who wants to advance open source in education!

🌍 OCX 2026 – Brussels, Belgium, E.U. | April 21–23, 2026

Europe’s flagship open source developer conference is where research, innovation, and collaboration intersect. OCX 2026 brings together practitioners, policymakers, and academics driving digital sovereignty and public code initiatives.

Apereo will anchor The Open Community for Research — a track highlighting how open source enables transparent, reproducible, and collaborative research in higher education.

This year’s OCX builds on the surging momentum across Europe around open source, digital sovereignty, and public code. Higher education has always led the way in this transformation, demonstrating how open standards, open data, and open collaboration can create societal value and foster equity. Apereo and the community will be there to ensure education continues to lead toward a more open, sovereign, and sustainable digital future.

The Southern California Linux Expo (SCaLE) is the largest community-driven open source conference on the U.S. West Coast — an energizing mix of developers, educators, and advocates.
