Hi everyone, hope your Monday is off to a great start!
Just a friendly reminder that the next Sakai Accessibility Working Group meeting is scheduled for this Friday, August 20 at 2pm.
At our last meeting on August 6 I updated Jen Bethmann on some of the testing that I had recently completed on the “Lessons” tool. We also discussed the status of the Sakai 21 VPAT being completed by our vendor, AKEA Web Solutions, and how, moving forward, we will be able to leverage this work to supplement/enhance the Sakai Community’s ongoing efforts related to accessibility. I talked briefly about some of the Jiras that I have recently done testing on, including my plans to go back and do more testing on SAK-45885 during one of our upcoming interactive test sessions, so that Shawn can disconnect me from our virtual production environment as a way to test the error message warning a Student receives when they lose their internet connection. Jen and I spent most of the August 6 Sakai Accessibility Working Group meeting talking through an issue that Tiffany Stull had recently brought to the group about the best way to present helper text for certain disabled date fields in Date Manager.
By the end of our call, Jen and I had come up with a proposed solution that we felt would be accessible for screen reader users, without being overly obtrusive for sighted users, which she wrote up and subsequently shared with Tiffany.
Again, I’m hoping things will start to settle down for everyone so we will have more folks attending these meetings on a regular basis, as I think there is a lot of value in having you, the Sakai Community, actively providing input and guidance related to our accessibility efforts/strategy.
Come one, come all--anyone is welcome to attend—so whether you’re a newcomer and are just interested in checking out what goes on at our Accessibility Working Group meetings, or one of our “regulars” and its just been a while since you have been able to make the rounds, we’d love to see you on Friday!

Thanks again to Jen Bethmann for generating the attached report of Sakai 21 accessibility issues that are open, awaiting review, and in progress. As always, please review the list in advance of the meeting and let us know if there are particular issues that you would like to discuss/look at.
And of course, feel free to submit other agenda items/discussion topics that are of interest to you—glad to reserve some time to have a group discussion and/or to do an interactive test session using the screenshare feature in Zoom to demo any issue the group is interested in looking at.
If you can't make this Friday’s Sakai Accessibility Working Group meeting, please mark your calendar for the next one scheduled for Friday, *September 3, 2021 at 2pm.
*This is the Friday of Labor Day weekend, so it is still TBD whether we will decide to keep/cancel the September 3 meeting, since many people are likely to be out that Friday to take advantage of the extended holiday weekend
Thanks,
