installation CAS

hai guys. 
My name is Bima, I'm a college student from Indonesia. 
Right now i have a final project for my study and it related with single sign on. 
I'm interested in CAS and right now I'm stuck in Maven Overlay Installation. 
Do you have some complete tutorials for this Maven Overlay? 

i've read tutorial on this link https://wiki.jasig.org/display/CASUM/Best+Practice+-+Setting+Up+CAS+Locally+using+the+Maven+WAR+Overlay+Method
but there are different with guide from https://github.com/apereo/cas-overlay-template

still confuse, need something like step-by-step. im already use maven overlay templates, but my cas.war cant deploy on tomcat.

error -> FAIL - Application at context path /cas could not be started

Check the logs. There should be an explanation of the FAIL.
