Dear colleagues,

I am glad to contact you on behalf of the guest editors to announce that submission to this Special Issue in the JSAES honoring the career of Dr. Eduardo Olivero is now open.

We invite authors to contribute research on new discoveries or comprehensive reviews related to Mesozoic-Cenozoic paleoenvironmental and paleobiologic aspects of Patagonia, Tierra del Fuego, and the Antarctic Peninsula. The Special Issue will receive submissions on new research and significant review papers. We encourage contributions on the practical application of sedimentology and paleontology to solve relevant geological issues in these areas, which has been the motivation of Dr. Olivero for more than 50 years. Accordingly, the Special Issue is open to contributions that may focus on the study of Mesozoic-Cenozoic environments of polar and subpolar regions, sedimentologic and stratigraphic models of the Rocas Verdes, Austral-Magallanes, Malvinas and James Ross basins, and biostratigraphic correlations in this region. We do not encourage the submission of research focused solely on systematic paleontology.

The submissions will be received via the submission system of the Journal of South American Earth Sciences from March 1st to May 31st, 2026. Manuscripts should be prepared according to the guide for authors of this journal and will be peer reviewed as usual. The submission website for this journal is located at:  https://www.editorialmanager.com/sames/default2.aspx
To ensure that all manuscripts are correctly identified for inclusion in the special issue, it is important that authors select “VSI: A tribute to Eduardo Olivero” at the “Article Type” step in the submission process.

If you have any queries, please contact me or any of the guest editors and we will be happy to assist you.

Looking forward to hearing from you,

Special Issue Guest Editors
