The Senior Editors at JVP are putting out an open call for a Phylogenetic Editor. One of our two phylogenetic editors will rotate off the board on July 1, and we need a new editor to take their place. This person will be trained by the editor rotating off, and the Phylogenetic Editor still on staff, Gustavo Darlim. Duties of the Phylogenetic Editor (PE) include ensuring the computational reproducibility of the phylogenetic analyses presented in submitted manuscripts. PEs conduct revisions specifically focused on the phylogenetic sections of manuscripts and, when necessary, provide assistance to the authors. PEs verify that all information required to perform the analyses are adequately described by the authors, and that the analytical procedures are clear, accurate, and represent a robust analytical strategy for the dataset under study. In addition, they verify the reported results, and require authors to provide files containing the resulting phylogenetic trees, while also ensuring general compliance with other minor requirements established in JVP’s phylogenetic guidelines. Most analyses involve maximum parsimony approaches, although manuscripts occasionally also include model-based analyses, such as maximum likelihood and Bayesian inference. Phylogenetic Editors should hold a Ph.D. in a related field and should be familiar with all phylogenetic techniques listed above. We ask that anyone applying for the position be willing to make a 2-year commitment to the role. This term is renewable. To apply, please submit a CV and a no more than 1 page statement of qualifications to both Senior Editors, Julie Meachen (jmea...@dmu.edu) and Juliana Sterli (jst...@mef.org.ar). Queries should be directed to the same email addresses. The application deadline is Monday, May 25th.
