Hey fellow Linux lovers,

I been struggling with my system. I am using pop os! I installed with a monolith partition with the system and home in one block. I recently made my system unstable by bad upgrade or kernel. Recently I have been unable to shutdown my PC it hangs and leaves a cryptic message. I will attach. I acquired a SSD to backup home with plans to reinstall. My goal is to preserve my data and my config. I am using snaps, apt, dpkg, and flatpak apps. Pop OS is based on Ubuntu but under the hood seems a lot different.

Hi Napoleon,

You may want to check out

Boot from it and try mounting your computer's partition to see if you can access the data from it.

Good luck,
Nimret

Hi,

I would backup your data and then boot into the previous kernel

If that doesn't work, try a system restore

Cheers,

Ski

No need for kernel stub if you have a system76 machine, it's a boot option.

That recovery kernel doesn't boot.

You can try using a Linux bootable usb. Once you’re in the live boot environment, mount your internal drive as well as your ssd. Copy/backup whatever you want over to the ssd
